Groups, Councils and Committees
At St. Bernard's we have many opportunities and needs for you to share of your time and talent. Groups, councils and committees have needs ranging from stuffing envelopes, baking, administration, marketing, finance, general labor, carpentry, cleaning, and the list goes on and on. If you do not see a specific stype of sevice yolu would like ot be involved in, please Contact Us and we will be happy to sit down with you and find a great fit. if God is placing it on your heart to get involved, we want you involved to!

If you do not see something you like or if you have a new idea for a ministry, please also contact us and we will be sure to aid you in anyway possible to help you get it started.Training will be provided for all volunteers in areas where it is required. Volunteers will be notified in advance in regard to the specifics of each training session.
Liturgical Ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your baptismal call of service to one another. Our liturgies should utilize the talents and gifts that God has given this community to the fullest extent. Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning or through a public role of service within the Mass, parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations. Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries.
Altar Servers - Student at Weekend Liturgies – serve at the altar at the weekend liturgies; this ministry is open to those in Grade 3 through high school.
Adult Altar Servers at Funeral Liturgies – serve at the altar for funerals.
Lector - Proclaim the Word at weekend and special Liturgies.
Commentator – reads introduction to the Mass and the Prayers of the Faithful (petitions).
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion – distribute Communion at weekend, and special Liturgies.
Gift Bearers – Individuals, families, parish groups, you are invited to carry the gifts in the Offertory Processions. Celebrating a memorial, birthday, anniversary, new job, baby, or home? Be a part of the liturgy in thanksgiving representing all of God’s blessings to us.
Ministers of Hospitality – (Aka: Ushers) welcome and seat people at Liturgies, prepare offerings at Liturgies, distribute bulletin and other information (when needed). This ministry is for men, women, and whole families.
Sound Board Technician – Adult or Senior High Youth to operate sound-board for church sound system during Sunday and special liturgies. SB Tech’s are greatly needed for Liturgies!

Linen Ministry – These ministers clean and press the altar linens and purificators used each week in our liturgies. This is another invisible, yet essential ministry. The cloths used at the altar in the Eucharistic celebration are to be treated with the care and respect due to those items used in the preparation and celebration of the sacred mysteries.
Parishioners for Weekly Adoration – people are needed to fill in the hours in church when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar. Adoration is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. Also Fridays during Lent.
Liturgical Music Ministry is for those who like to elevate the liturgy. Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries.
Parish Choir – Sing with parishioners ages High School – Senior Citizen at two or three Liturgies per month. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM in the church. Contact Us
Accompanists - Instrumentalists – Musicians who play piano, organ, guitar, woodwinds, brass, and strings are always welcome to play at Liturgies. Instruments help create moods appropriate to the season and special Liturgies. Piano accompanists are greatly needed for Liturgies!
Cantor/Song Leaders – Song leaders that animate the singing at one or two liturgies per month. Usually one person with accompanist.
Children’s Choir – Made up of parish children from grade three through grade five.

Family Faith Night Choir – Youth or Adult - Contemporary singing group that ministers in music to the Family Faith Night program on one Wednesday evening a month during the months of Oct., Nov., Dec., Feb., March and April.

Youth Religious Education Program
Adult Faith Formation
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) -
a process for adults who are seeking Full Communion in the Roman Catholic Church, or Catholics desiring to grow in their understanding of the Catholic Faith.
Faith Journey Mentor – Follow a RCIA participant as they discern or seek to be fully initiated into the Catholic faith. Called upon as needed to share your faith, sessions & retreats are optional.
Bible Study – to be determined- consult the parish bulletin.
Baptism Preparation – classes offered for parents the first Thursday of the month, consult parish bulletin for more information.
Hospital Visitation – Once a month visit those who are sick in the hospital and reside at TR Care Center. The volunteer may or may not be a commissioned Minister of Holy Communion
Valley Home, Oakland Park, Thief River Care Center and other senior center Visitation – Once a month visit parishioners who are residents (by appointment). The volunteer may or may not be a commissioned Minister of Holy Communion.
Provide Transportation – Share a ride to church on Sunday or special events with those who are unable to drive
Sunday Communion Visits – Visit the homebound on Sundays and bring them the Eucharist (this person needs to be a commissioned Minister of Holy Communion).
Visit the Sick, the Dying and the Homebound – This is a ministry of merely sharing your presence whether it is five minutes or an hour.
Prison Ministry – serve as an escort – visit one person or a group – provide reading materials.
New Member Ministry - be a mentor or help in reaching out to new members/families.
Special Church Needs
Altar Linens - adult needed to launder Altar Linens.
Sacristy & Music Area Cleaning - adult to do light dusting in the Sacristy and in the music area, piano, organ etc.
Family Faith Activity Nights
St. Bernard's Catholic School
Time - Within the needs of St. Bernards School, we have many opportunities for contributing in large and small ways. Many of the needs are not complicated, do not require specialized talents and training nor do they require a donation of monetary means. They simply take some time. If you are a parent or family member of a St.Bernard's student the time you spend doing any volunteering in any capacity will be credited to your required volunteering hours. If you are not a parent or family member and simply want to support St. Bernard's School with a generous gift of your time, we have many hours of need for you to help!
Talent - Also needed to keep St. Bernard's moving forward is a vibrant and active group of individuals willing to give of talents God has provided them with. Everyone has a talent, no matter how big or small you may think your talent is, there is great value in it if used in union with God's will. Please consider giving of the special talents God has given you to St. Bernards. If you want to support St. Bernard's School with a generous gift of your talent, we have many opportunities for you!
Treasure - In today's world and economy, running a school is not free. It not only takes time and talent. It also takes money. This school is ran on the funds acquired from fundraising, grants, generous gifts and donations, memorials, tuition dollars and parish funds. Any contribution of your treasure will not go unnoticed and what was once your treasure, will now be the treasure of the children attending St. Bernard's School. If you want to support St. Bernard's School with a generous gift of your treasure, we have opportunities for you to give!
Bulletin Compiler\Stapler – assist with compilation of bulletin runs and special mailings and newsletters.
Telephoning – assist with calling parishioners for various events or needs at the direction of the parish secretary. This task can be done from home.
Knights of Columbus – a service and social organization for men.

Fish Frys - Help needed with Thursday Prep, Kitchen work, selling tickets, Dining Room, Frying Fish, Deliveries, and taking phone Orders. Contact: Jayne Miller (681.3571 ext. 212) or Contact Us
Sunday Coffee & Rolls – Serve coffee and rolls on Sunday am after the 8:30 am Mass. Contact: Theresa Vanyo (681.2208)
Rosary before Mass – help needed to start the Rosary CD at 4:30 pm on Saturdays before the 5 pm Mass. Contact: Mitch Hoard (686.3905)

Lawn Care – helping with mowing and trimming of lawn, trimming of trees and shrubs.
Watering – helping with watering outside plants, flowers and shrubs.
Snow Removal - helping with shoveling and
parking lot snow removal.
Weekend Snow Removal – shoveling sidewalks and entrances of church before scheduled Mass times.
Minor Maintenance – helping with minor maintenance needs around the parish.
Monthly Chairperson – contact volunteers to work or bring bars according to the sign up sheets.
Serve as Cook – order food & prepare meals.
Serve as Worker – help prepare, serve & clean up meal.
Bar Baking – Bake bars for funerals.

Seasonal Decorating – assist with changing the seasonal colors and environment of our worship space and gathering space.
Plant Care – parishioners are needed to help water and maintain plants and flowers in the church and gathering space areas.
